What's the biggest withholding form myth you've heard?

edited May 2016 in General Payroll Topics

Throughout the years, I've heard people express certain beliefs about withholding forms that are just not true...including that it's not compliant to submit them online. What have you come across?

  • Mostly that they don't have to give you their SS card/number. Or they shouldn't ever have anything withheld at all for whatever reason.

  • Many payroll people have heard that a wet signature on a paper form is required when a new employee is onboarded. The electronic version carries just as much weight as a paper/wet signature version. I hear this comment frequently at Statewide payroll meetings
